I fell in love with the VAG group soon after I purchased my first Volkswagen. It was a Golf Mk II. As an engineer who also likes to do his own car maintenance work, I was impressed by the ingenuity, robustness and serviceability of each new subsystem/part I tackled. Audi, an even more refined, hi-tech and luxury VAG brand was therefore a logical upgrade, especially as I found that, throughout generations, its unique aesthetics perfectly continue to match my sense of style, masculinity and attractiveness. This love relationship continues to this day, unblemished. While seeing that both of Audi's main rivals (that belong to the German Big Three car manufacturers) have been, for some time now, including bicycles in their collections, I could not but notice, being a former road cyclist and still an active master, how these bikes are not nearly par to their native car brands. I wondered which bicycle manufacturer could in this respect team with the FourRings, and was not able to find the one whose refined aesthetics could match Audi's. That is, before I found out about Renovo bikes. These bikes are, IMHO, the spot-on match for Audi cars, in every single aspect of what makes an image of a brand. I am overwhelmed just looking at these bikes. I do have one objection, though, which may also be interpreted as an effort not to have an uncritical, all-praise opinion of this collaboration, and that is that while they do make such a model, R4, there is no this Renovo's thoroughbred racing bike included in the Audi-branded offer.

I actually own a Renovo R3 frame. All I can say is "Spectacular"! Yes, it is not as light as a carbon frame, but ride a $5,000 carbon frame, then ride a Renovo, and I am sure you will pick the Renovo! My total weight came to 17.5 lbs with Campy Super Record, and Reynold carbon wheels. Would be 3 lbs. lighter with a carbon frame, but nowhere near the ride quality. Carbon is a great frame material, but the Renovo ride quality is second to none.

So how much of a discount do we Audi owners get? :-) Gorgeous work of art, though the price category is what I would pay for a 13.5 lb carbon fiber bike, not a 17-20 lb bike I would have to label boutique bike. Also find it difficult to find the $2500 markup over a Renovo road model. Love the disc brakes on a road bike--that will be hitting the broader market this next year.

The best description of the difference in wood to Aluminium would be like comparing using a hammer with a steel or Aluminium handle and then one with a wooden handle. The one with wood doesnt jar or shock your hand at all. From what i have seen and read these bikes are beautifull riding and handling machines. No for the pro circuit but who of us race professionally? You buy your Audi to cruise the roads and hills, not to race Le Mans, you buy your Audi /Renovo bike for the same reasons. Think outside the copy cat box and you will see the sensibilities of Audi's descision to have Renovo make these bikes for them.

I have seen them made and went to the manufacturing plant. They are incredibly durable and light weight. The woods are hand selected and monitored for hardness and moisture content. The technology and craftsman ship is amazing.

I'm a little apprehensive as to how this bike would ride, in an age of carbon fibre and aluminium bikes, this seems a little dated. As a cyclist I think the whole concept is flawed as all lightweight principles have been thrown out the door. Surely with Audi's motorsport success they could use the materials found in motorsport and bring it to the road.

Looks pretty and solid. I wonder what the warranty is on this type of bike.
